基礎Ⅰレベル（TOEIC L&R TEST ～600 / 英検２級）
秋も深まり、一日一日と寒くなってきましたね。口語では、やさしい単語で構成された 群動詞 がよく使われますね。覚えておくと英作文でも重宝します。
今回は、定期試験や実力試験によく出る群動詞を集めてみました。例文をノートに書いて覚えましょう(^^)/
ask for ～を頼む
I asked him for his help with business.
私は彼に仕事の手伝いを頼んだ。
break down 故障する
My dad’s car completely broke down yesterday.
昨日、父の車が完全に壊れてしまった。
catch up with 追いつく
Mr. Smith has to catch up with his master to carry on the school.
道場（流派）を継承するためには、スミスさんは師匠に追いつかなければなりません。
deal with ～に対応する
I wonder how I’m going to deal with trouble.
厄介事にどう対処したらいいのだろうか。
dispose of ～を処分する
You need to dispose of all your old books before a move.
引っ越し前にあなたの古い本を全て処分する必要があります。
do without ～なしではいられない
I cannot do without more than a pack of cigarettes a day.
一日にタバコ一箱以上は吸わないといられない。
drop in ひょっこりやって来る
She often drops in at my house.
彼女はよく私の家に立ち寄る。
end in ～に終わる（～という結末になる）
His cunning conspiracy against the teachers ended in a bad result.
彼の教師たちに対する悪だくみは失敗に終わった。
get along 元気に暮らす、仲良くする
Are you getting along well after that?
その後、お元気でお過ごしですか？
get off 降りる
Have you got off the Shinkansen train at the Nagoya station yet?
もう名古屋駅で新幹線を降りましたか？
get rid of ～を取り除く、望ましくないものを免れる ＝ dispose of
I am thinking of getting rid of my old computer.
古いパソコンを処分しようと思っている。
give up ～を断念する
The company gave up the new project because of being short of funds.
会社は資金難で新規プロジェクトをあきらめた。
hand in ～を提出する、手渡しする
I handed in my report, but it is so late.
遅ればせながら、レポートを提出しました。
hear of ～の消息を聞く
Nothing has ever been heard of her.
それ以来、彼女の消息は全く途絶えている。
insist on 言い張る
Her sister insisted on paying the money to me.
彼女の妹（姉）は、私にお金を払うと言い張った。
keep up with ずっと付いていく（遅れていて追いつくのは catch up with ）
I’m going to keep up with the front group all the way.
このまま先頭集団にずっと付いていくつもりだ。
look after 世話をする、気を配る
My grandmother often looked after me when my parents were very busy.
両親が忙しい時は、祖母がよく私の面倒をみてくれた。
look for ～を探す = search for
I will look for a new job next year for sure.
来年こそは新しい仕事を探そう。
look forward to ～を楽しみに待つ
I’m looking forward to seeing you again.
再開を楽しみにしています。
look up to ～を尊敬する （反対語 look down on 軽蔑する）
We all the students looked up to her as our great mistress.
我々学生は皆、彼女を素晴らしい師と仰いでいた。
make out ～をよく理解する
I cannot make out what they want to do.
彼らが何をしたいのかさっぱり分からない。
make up for 補う、償う、埋め合わせをする
We must go by airplane to make up for the time lost due to the suspension of train services.
列車の運休による時間のロスを取り戻すため、飛行機で行かねばならない。
put off 延期する = postpone
The business trip was put off due to a heavy typhoon.
強い台風の影響で出張は延期になった。
put up with ～を我慢する
My sister put up with it for a log time.
妹はずっと我慢していた。
see off ～を見送る
Thank you for seeing me off. I’m going.
お見送り、ありがとうございます。行ってきます。
stand for ～を表す

DNAとRNAは何を表していますか？（何の略ですか）
take advantage of ～を活用する
Prof. Sato advised me to take advantage of exchange programs.
佐藤教授から交換留学制度を利用するように助言がありました。
take off 飛び立つ
JAL 101 has just taken off on time.
日本航空101便は定刻に離陸しました。
take part in ～に加わる、貢献する
I took part in the volunteer work in the community.
地域のボランティア活動に参加しました。
turn into ～になる（変化する）
The small tropical cyclone turned into a typhoon last night.
昨晩、小さな勢力の熱帯低気圧が台風に変わりました。
覚えるコツは、動詞と前置詞や副詞の関係に着目して何度も紙に書いてください。
単語の並びからピンとくるものもあれば、意味の分からないものもあります。なんとなく法則性は有るようであまり無いのが群動詞なので、そのまま覚えてしまう方がベターです。
